FIU Preceptor is an independent placement service that works only with Florida International University (FIU) nursing students. We shape each search around the way FIU runs clinical education: the practicum course and its patients, the preceptor rules in FIU's graduate handbook, the fields of the Preceptor Request Form, the site contract, and setup that happens the semester before.

Who we are
Our desk exists for students of FIU's Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences who need a preceptor, a clinical site or a DNP organizational mentor. You are paired with a placement advisor who reads your plan of study with you, tracks your practicum terms and stays reachable until the term's clinical days are done.
A narrow focus is the point. FIU's programs carry their own forms, systems, timelines and internal contradictions, and a search designed around them produces a preceptor FIU can approve without rounds of back-and-forth.
Why a service built only for FIU
Online primary care students at FIU carry the site search themselves. The Clinical Education page assigns it to them and has the clinical department follow with the contract, which in practice makes each AGPCNP and PNP student a recruiter in the term before every practicum, usually alongside a nursing job.
Getting it right depends on FIU detail. NGR 6201L and NGR 6301L call for different patient panels, the request form records the facility's address and the preceptor's license, an unfamiliar site needs a contract that can take 6-8 weeks, and Typhon rejects entries older than a week. Even FIU's hour totals differ between the website, at 770, and the graduate handbook's 630-hour minimum. Our service starts from those specifics instead of discovering them mid-search.

Who we work with
The core of our work is the programs where FIU leaves the site search to the student: the online MSN tracks in Adult-Gerontology and Pediatric Primary Care, the online certificates in those two specialties, and the online specialties of the post-BSN to DNP. Post-MSN DNP students bring us the search for a residency mentor, and online RN to BSN students ask for a BSN-prepared preceptor at a site FIU has under contract.
Hybrid FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP students receive placement help from FIU's clinical department, and some add our search as a second route. Clinicians interested in teaching can precept an FIU student through our network. In Nurse Anesthesia and the BSN programs, FIU assigns the sites itself, and our program guides describe how.
How we work alongside FIU
We operate independently, and each side's part is plain. Approval of every site and preceptor, and the clinical contracts, belong to FIU's faculty and its clinical education office. You file the request, maintain your clearance and log your hours. We carry the search, the screening and the preparation, so FIU receives a request with nothing missing.
Our FIU guides draw on FIU's handbook, preceptor manual, plans of study, catalog and policy pages. When two FIU documents disagree, the guide shows both and names who settles it for you: your plan of study, your course and clinical faculty, and FIU's clinical education staff. No. FIU Preceptor is an independent service for FIU nursing students. Decisions on sites and preceptors, and the contracts behind them, rest with FIU's faculty and clinical education office. Our work is the search and the preparation that let FIU review your request quickly.
Who handles my placement?
One placement advisor owns your search, keeps your FIU dates in view and remains your contact through the term, with the placement desk behind them. Whichever channel you use, form, chat or email, your message reaches people who already know your program and your file.
Which FIU programs do you help with?
Mainly the online primary care programs: the MSN AGPCNP and PNP tracks, their post-graduate certificates and the post-BSN to DNP specialties. We also find residency mentors for post-MSN DNP students and preceptors for online RN to BSN students, and hybrid-track students use us beside FIU's own placement help.
Where do you find preceptors for FIU students?
In FIU's four home counties, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe, and across the rest of Florida for students on the online tracks. Each practice is chosen for your course and your commute. FIU is silent on sites in other states, so raise any out-of-state idea with FIU's clinical education staff first.
