What shapes the cost of your FIU placement

The factors that shape a quote

Your placement advisor looks at five things when preparing a quote.

• The course and its patients. Adult and older-adult primary care for the AGPCNP practicums, pediatric primary care for the PNP practicums, an organizational mentor for DNP residency hours, or a BSN-prepared preceptor for the RN to BSN capstone.
• Where you can train. A dense area offers many practices within a weekday drive; a small town, the Keys or a rural county can mean a wider search and more outreach per preceptor.
• How soon the practicum begins. A search opened the semester before runs at a normal pace. One opened a few weeks out, or after a preceptor drops, is compressed.
• How many practicums you want covered. One course, or the whole sequence. FIU's 5-2026 plan of study lists three practicums for each primary care track (the graduate handbook describes the sequence differently), and each practicum needs an approved preceptor.
• Constraints on the match. Specific clinic days around your job, a site outside FIU's four home counties, or an employer whose own facilities are closed to you.

Costs that sit outside our quote

FIU's own tuition and fees are separate from our service, and so are the clinical expenses FIU's documents place on students. Those include the background check, fingerprints and drug testing ordered through American Databank, repeat tests, yearly proof of health insurance, any extra screening a particular facility requires, and transportation to clinical sites. A clinical site or other outside party may also have charges of its own, which likewise sit outside our quote. Asking about a site's onboarding requirements early, before you accept a placement, keeps those surprises small. For students on the online tracks, remember the 1-3 campus visits per semester that FIU's MSN FAQ says may be required; the trips belong in your budget as well as your calendar.
