NGR 6302L: the Spring pediatric practicum in FIU's PNP track
NGR 6302L is the second pediatric primary care practicum at Florida International University (FIU). It carries 4 credits in the Spring, semester 5 of the online PNP plan. Its site is arranged during the Fall, while you are still in NGR 6301L, and FIU lets you stay with your first preceptor or move to a new one.

NGR 6302L in the plan: Spring of year two
FIU's 5-2026 MSN plan pairs NGR 6302 with the NGR 6302L practicum in semester 5, a Spring term, for 7 credits; the practicum alone is 4. The online post-graduate PNP certificate places the same practicum in its own semester 5, and Fall-start post-BSN to DNP students meet it in semester 5 as well.
FIU's documents do not describe this course the same way, and the difference shapes what comes after it.

Under the handbook's layout NGR 6302L is the last numbered pediatric practicum; under the new plan one more follows in Summer. Ask your course faculty which layout your cohort follows before you plan beyond Spring.
Keep your first preceptor or change sites
A new semester can bring a new site and preceptor under FIU's graduate handbook, so NGR 6302L is a genuine decision point rather than an automatic carry-over. Staying put saves a contract search and a new orientation. Moving can widen what you see, or rescue you from a site where the fit was weak.
Whichever way you go, the paperwork restarts. The Preceptor Request Form names a single course and a single term with its dates, days and times, so check with your clinical faculty whether a fresh form is needed even when the preceptor stays the same.

Spring 2027 dates that shape the rotation
FIU's 2026-2027 academic calendar runs the Spring main session from January 11 to May 1, 2027, with spring break March 1-7. Session A runs January 11 to February 27 and Session B March 8 to April 24. Which of these the NP practicums use is left unstated by FIU, so rely on the dates in your NGR 6302L syllabus.
Two handbook rules shape this term. Rotations are confined to official semester periods, so clinical work over spring break needs your faculty's emailed approval in advance. If a clinical day coincides with an official holiday, you and your preceptor schedule a make-up day to cover it.

Setting up Spring while NGR 6301L is still running
Because FIU arranges rotations one semester ahead of the clinical course, the Spring site is really a Fall task. That overlap is the hard part: you are logging hours, meeting your first preceptor and preparing for a faculty site visit while also lining up the next practice.
- Early FallDecide whether to stay or move. If you stay, confirm the preceptor's Spring availability in writing; if you move, begin the search immediately.
- By mid-NovemberJanuary 11, 2027 minus 8 weeks is November 16, 2026. Treat that as the last safe day to hand FIU a practice with no contract, using the top of the handbook's 6-8 week estimate.

Evaluations and faculty visits in the middle practicum
The routine from the first practicum repeats, and it gets less forgiving as your total climbs. Log each encounter in Typhon NPST within 7 days; late entries are not accepted and those hours are redone. Your preceptor signs the Clinical Rotation Time-Sheet Log as you go, each day or each week, and never in advance.
Under the 2022 preceptor manual your preceptor evaluates you twice, midway and at the close of the rotation, and your clinical faculty watches you work on two or more separate clinical days while the preceptor is there. Evaluations and site visits covers both in detail. A grade of B (85%) is the floor in every required course, and practicums are no exception. Keep your own copies of each signed evaluation and time sheet, since they are your record if a total is questioned later in the program.
If the Spring site falls through
A preceptor who withdraws in December or January leaves the least time to recover, because no rotation can begin before a contract is in place. Alert both your clinical faculty and FIU's Office of Clinical Education that day, because every missed clinical hour has to be recovered and FIU's Incomplete policy has strict limits. When a preceptor drops out walks through the recovery in order.
The strongest protection is a second practice already identified in the Fall, with its contract status known, so a replacement request can reach the Clinical Education Department without starting from zero. Do I need a new preceptor for NGR 6302L at FIU?
Not necessarily. Staying is allowed, and so is moving: the handbook permits a change of site and preceptor each semester. Keeping a preceptor whose patients already fit the course is often the simplest path. Confirm with your clinical faculty whether a new Preceptor Request Form is needed for the Spring term, because the form is written for one course and one set of dates.
Can I do clinical hours during FIU's spring break?
Only with advance approval. Clinical rotations are tied to FIU's official semester periods, and a clinical day inside a campus break needs your faculty to approve it by email first. For Spring 2027, the break runs March 1-7. Send the request before you put any clinical day that week on your NGR 6302L schedule.
What is NGR 6302C in FIU's graduate handbook?
The 2025-2026 handbook pairs NGR 6302C with NGR 6302L as Advanced Child Health Nursing II, Theory and Practicum. The 5-2026 plan of study lists the theory course as NGR 6302 instead. The practicum number is the same in both, but the courses after it differ, so confirm which plan governs your cohort.
Does NGR 6302L run the whole 16-week Spring term?
FIU does not say whether the NP practicums use the 16-week main session (January 11 to May 1, 2027) or the shorter Sessions A and B. Your syllabus and course faculty give the start and end dates for NGR 6302L. Build your preceptor schedule from those dates, not from the university calendar alone.
Does a hurricane or holiday day count against my NGR 6302L hours?
Holiday clinical days are rescheduled: you and your preceptor pick a replacement day. For storms, FIU's official closure decisions are the only ones the handbook tells you to follow. Either way, the hours still have to be completed, so leave room in your schedule for make-up days.
