NGR 6303L: finishing the pediatric track at FIU
NGR 6303L is the last pediatric primary care practicum on the 5-2026 PNP plan of study at Florida International University (FIU): 3 credits in the Summer of year two, taken with NGR 6303 and the NGR 6744 seminar. The current graduate handbook describes that final stretch differently, and the Summer term is shorter than Fall or Spring, so this is the practicum where planning slack runs out.

The last term of the PNP plan
Semester 6 on the MSN plan of study (Rev. 5-2026, effective Spring 2027) holds three courses: NGR 6303, the NGR 6303L practicum at 3 credits, and NGR 6744 Professional Advanced Practice Seminar at 2 credits, for 8 credits in all. The online post-graduate PNP certificate ends the same way, with practicum III and NGR 6744 in its semester 6.
For post-BSN to DNP students on the Fall-start plan, semester 6 is also the point where the MSN is awarded, so that they can sit for national certification while their DNP study continues. On this plan, the Summer term is where the program's clinical hours have to be complete.
The practicum carries one credit fewer than NGR 6301L and NGR 6302L, but FIU publishes no hour figure for it; your syllabus and course faculty set that number.
The handbook describes a different final stretch
This is the biggest course-structure conflict in FIU's PNP documents. The 5-2026 plan gives the track three numbered practicums. The 2025-2026 graduate handbook gives it two, NGR 6301L and NGR 6302L, followed by a clinical decision-making course and a role synthesis course, and the 2021 brochure plan matches the handbook's layout.

The older Preceptor Request Form, Appendix A of the 2022 manual, follows the handbook's layout: its course list offers Role Synthesis, not a third practicum. If you are unsure which course you will register for, check with the Graduate Nursing Advisor and your course faculty, and use their answer on your request form.
Confirm in writing whether your final Summer is NGR 6303L or NGR 6337L before you ask a preceptor to commit to it.
A shorter Summer window
Session C, the full Summer 2027 session, covers May 10 through July 30, 2027: roughly twelve weeks, where Fall and Spring each get sixteen. The shorter Sessions A (May 10 to June 18) and B (June 21 to July 30) also exist, and FIU leaves unstated which one the practicums run in, so your syllabus dates decide.
A shorter term means fewer weekdays for the same kind of rotation, and the handbook expects primary care students on weekday, daytime schedules, so count the clinical days your preceptor can actually offer before you accept the placement. Two dates bracket the term: June 28 is the final day to take a DR in a Session C course, and August 7, 2027 is the Summer conferral date.

Finishing the program's hours
Everything you logged in the first two practicums feeds the total you must reach by the end of this one. FIU states that total two ways, 770 hours for the PNP on its Clinical Education page and a 630-hour Pediatric minimum in the handbook. 770 versus 630 sets out that conflict. Before the Summer begins, ask your course faculty to confirm which total applies to you and how many hours remain.
The Typhon NPST 7-day rule is least forgiving here: a log entry made late is rejected and the hours behind it have to be worked again, with very little term left to do it. Two sign-offs stand between a clinical day and a counted hour, your preceptor's at the site and then your faculty's in Typhon, so leave room for both before July 30.

After NGR 6303L: certification and a Florida APRN license
Finishing the MSN opens two doors, according to FIU: a national certification exam in your specialty and an application for Florida APRN certification. FIU's handbook adds that passing the national exam meets the Florida Board of Nursing's criteria for APRN licensure. FIU's pages do not name the certifying body for the PNP track, so confirm the exam with your track program leader. Questions FIU students ask
Is NGR 6303L the same course as NGR 6337L Role Synthesis?
They fill the same final slot in two different FIU documents. The 5-2026 plan of study lists NGR 6303L as a third pediatric practicum, while the 2025-2026 graduate handbook ends the track with NGR 6337C Clinical Decision Making and NGR 6337L Role Synthesis. Which one you take depends on the plan that governs your cohort, so confirm it with your course faculty.
Can I graduate if my NGR 6303L hours are not finished by July 30?
Not until the hours are complete. An IN is possible only if half the work or less is outstanding and you are passing otherwise, and no one graduates while an IN stands. The rest has to be done within the next two terms in a row, counting summer, or the grade turns into an F.
What is NGR 6744 in FIU's PNP plan?
NGR 6744 is the Professional Advanced Practice Seminar, a 2-credit course in semester 6 of the 5-2026 plan, taken in the same Summer as NGR 6303L. It appears on the MSN plan and on the post-graduate certificate plans for every primary care track. Its syllabus, on FIU SharePoint, sets out what the seminar requires.
Which certification exam do FIU PNP graduates take?
FIU's pages point graduates toward a national certification exam in the specialty and Florida APRN certification, without naming the organization that certifies Pediatric Primary Care NPs. Ask your track program leader which exam the program prepares you for, and read that exam's eligibility rules before your last semester closes.
Can my NGR 6302L preceptor also take me for the final practicum?
Yes, if the preceptor agrees and the site's contract is current. Moving is optional: the handbook permits, but does not require, a new site each semester. Check that the preceptor can offer enough Summer weekdays, and send a Preceptor Request Form for the new term if your clinical faculty asks for one.
