Idaho and FIU: one question for the board, several for FIU
Idaho's nursing rules govern programs taught inside the state and leave out-of-state schools to a conversation with the board's licensing staff. Florida International University (FIU) has not decided whether its programs qualify graduates for an Idaho license, and whether its online tracks' clinical reach crosses the Florida line is unstated. How Idaho handles schools from elsewhere
Idaho's approval rules for nursing education, found in the board's administrative code and in Idaho Code section 54-1406, are about schools that teach in Idaho. Nothing in them targets a faraway university sending one student for clinical hours. That case goes to the Board of Nursing itself, housed in DOPL, Idaho's occupational licensing division: under a heading about nursing programs based outside Idaho or online, the board's site gives schools a licensing email for requirements and approval.
Two provisions work in an NP student's favor. Board rule 100.12.a in IDAPA 24.34.01 lets an RN with the right to practice in Idaho, through an Idaho license or a compact privilege, perform the advanced practice work the curriculum calls for, provided the APRN program is nationally accredited and the nurse is formally admitted to it. A separate statute, section 54-1412, excuses students of approved programs from licensure for work that is part of their formal instruction. FIU reports CCNE accreditation for its master's and DNP programs.

Idaho and Florida have both honored multistate RN licenses since January 2018, but FIU's MSN is written around a Florida license; the Florida RN license page quotes FIU's wording. Idaho sits outside the APRN Compact, so your NP license there would come from Idaho's own board. For the rest, read the licensure disclosure.
Preceptors in a full practice state
AANP lists Idaho as full practice. On preceptors, the board's 2024 education policy (HP-BON-Education 1) is blunt: a preceptor's license must match the student's intended level or exceed it, which for an NP student means an APRN license or beyond. Faculty face Idaho licensing expectations under that policy too, with Idaho RN licensure to teach nursing courses and Idaho APRN licensure to lead courses in an APRN role and population. Whether that reaches FIU's faculty is for FIU to answer.

Boise, Coeur d'Alene and the rest of Idaho
Boise's metro dwarfs the rest of the state, with Coeur d'Alene up north, Idaho Falls to the east and Twin Falls in the south trailing well behind. Most Boise-area students weigh two systems first, St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus; farther north, Kootenai Health is based in Coeur d'Alene. Use these as a sketch of where NP care happens. RN to BSN students search on different terms. FIU suggests finding a preceptor inside your own facility, and its RN to BSN/MSN admissions accept a multistate license, which a nurse based in Idaho may hold. FIU's 2021 information package keeps the practicum requirements in place for students living outside South Florida.

Questions FIU students ask
Can I finish FIU's online AGPCNP track from Boise?
Nobody at FIU has answered that in print. Idaho gets no finding on the licensure page, admission needs a current Florida RN license, and whether an AGPCNP rotation may sit in Idaho is left unsaid. Put that last question to the Office of Clinical Education before you enroll or move.
Who can precept an FIU NP student in Idaho?
Under Idaho's policy the preceptor's license has to equal or top the one you are training for, so an APRN or someone licensed beyond that. FIU's own list: at least one year of specialty experience, an active license, national certification, and no relatives or friends as preceptors. Our preceptor requirements page covers FIU's side.
Should I contact the Idaho Board of Nursing myself?
For your own licensing plans, yes: FIU tells students aiming for a license outside Florida to reach that state's licensing agency before starting. Program approval is a school matter, since the board's out-of-state guidance is addressed to schools, so ask FIU who would contact Idaho about a rotation there.
I am moving to Idaho after my first year at FIU. What changes?
Your learner location changes only once you formally report the move, under FIU Policy 1370.001, and that location affects FIU's authorization for clinicals. Report it early, then ask the clinical education office where your remaining practicums can happen before you sign a lease far from any approved site.
