NGR 6203L: the final adult-gerontology practicum and your last FIU semester
On the 5-2026 plan at Florida International University (FIU), NGR 6203L is the 3-credit practicum that closes the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP track in semester 6, taken with NGR 6203 and the NGR 6744 Professional Advanced Practice Seminar. The graduate handbook describes that last stretch differently and the Summer term is short, so pin down both the course and your remaining hours while it is still Spring.

What the plan says, and what the handbook says instead
FIU's 5-2026 revision, the plan that governs from Spring 2027, fills semester 6 with NGR 6203 and its NGR 6203L practicum (3 credits) plus NGR 6744 (2 credits), 8 credits in total. AGPCNP certificate students also end with NGR 6203L and NGR 6744, and for post-BSN to DNP students who began in a Fall term it is semester 6, the point at which FIU confers the MSN.

If you began before Spring 2027, your final semester could run under either structure. Ask the Graduate Nursing Advisor or your track program leader which one your cohort follows, what the practicum is called on your registration, and which course to mark on the request form.
FIU publishes no hour figure for NGR 6203L or for Role Synthesis. Your syllabus and course faculty set it, and they are also the people to ask how many program hours you still owe.
A shorter term: Summer 2027 dates
Summer is FIU's compressed semester. On the 2026-2027 calendar, Session C covers the entire summer, opening May 10 and closing July 30, 2027, which gives you close to 12 weeks where Fall and Spring each give you 16. Sessions A (May 10 to June 18) and B (June 21 to July 30) divide it in half. Which of these the NP practicums follow is left to the syllabus, so build from the dates printed there.
Summer degrees are conferred on August 7, 2027, and June 28 is the final day a Session C course can be dropped with a DR. Fewer weeks means more clinical days per week if you still owe a large share of your total, which is why the count below matters more in this course than in the two before it.
Setup follows the usual semester-before pattern, just with less room. Eight weeks back from May 10, 2027 is March 15, one week after classes resume from spring break, so a site new to FIU should be on a request form by then.
Finishing your program hours
The final practicum is where FIU's hour conflict stops being abstract. FIU's MSN web pages give 770 total clinical hours and the handbook a 630 minimum for Adult-Gerontology primary care, and whichever total your faculty confirm, the last of it has to land here. - Leave a margin.Every lost hour has to be repaid, and holidays, absences and site closures eat into a short term faster than a long one.
If the hours run short
An Incomplete is possible but narrow. FIU policy 380.0449 (revised August 2025) reserves an IN for students who are passing and have at least half the course done. You then have two consecutive terms to complete it before it turns into an F, and an unresolved IN keeps you from graduating, so in a final semester it can push back your conferral date.

After NGR 6203L: certification and Florida licensure
FIU's program page says a graduate can go on to national certification in the specialty and to Florida APRN certification. The handbook adds a step of its own: a certification review course, completed within the year before your exam application. No certifying body is named, so confirm eligibility directly with the board you pick.
In Florida, APRN licensure then runs through an online application, Livescan fingerprints for the background check, proof of certification sent to the Board by the certifying body, proof of malpractice insurance or an exemption, and, once licensed, a supervisory protocol kept at your practice location. Questions FIU students ask
Is NGR 6203L the same as Role Synthesis?
FIU does not say so. The 5-2026 plan ends the adult-gerontology track with NGR 6203L and NGR 6744, while the handbook ends it with NGR 6209 Clinical Decision Making and NGR 6700L Role Synthesis. They occupy the same final stretch, but FIU has published no crosswalk between them, so ask your advisor which course you register for.
How many clinical hours are left for NGR 6203L?
That depends on your program total and on what FIU accepted in your first two practicums. FIU publishes no per-course figure, the plan lists NGR 6203L at 3 credits, and your syllabus and course faculty set the target. Total your approved Typhon hours before the Spring ends so the answer is ready when you plan the Summer.
Does NGR 6744 need a preceptor?
FIU's plan lists NGR 6744 as a 2-credit Professional Advanced Practice Seminar and assigns it no clinical hours or site. Only the practicum needs your preceptor. Read the NGR 6744 syllabus for its own deadlines and keep them separate from your clinical calendar, since both land in the same short term.
Can I graduate in August if I finish my hours late in the Summer?
FIU confers Summer 2027 degrees on August 7, a week after Session C closes on July 30. Your hours must be logged in Typhon within 7 days and approved, and an Incomplete blocks graduation until it is cleared. Plan to finish your clinical days with a margin before the term ends rather than in its last week.
Where do post-BSN DNP students go after NGR 6203L?
FIU awards the MSN after semester six so you can sit for national certification. The DNP portion then continues, with NGR 7940C DNP Project I (170 hours) in semester 8 of the Fall-start plan, followed by NGR 7941C and NGR 7942C.
